AGRO FOOD PARK

One innovative solution that works for 100 companies

Agro Food Park is an industry‑specialized business environment for more than 100 companies working within the agricultural and food industries. The park radiates innovation and provides a favourable environment for developing new ideas.

The idea behind Agro Food Park is to create and support a network that connects competencies across the entire agricultural and food sector with the purpose of strengthening the development of the industry as a whole.

The Challenge

New legal requirements and a need for waste sorting that blends naturally into the interior

Agro Food Park approached us with a wish for a waste sorting solution that met the new legal requirements for sorting waste into ten fractions (from 2023). They also wanted a durable solution that would blend naturally into the environment. Agro Food Park needed a streamlined solution that could replace the many individual waste bins and function across the park’s 100 companies.

Agro Food Park placed great emphasis on aesthetics and sought a minimalist solution that would make the bins appear as furniture — not as waste bins — in the many shared areas.

From waste to resources

"At Agro Food Park, we house more than 100 different companies, so it is important to us that the solution is streamlined and fits naturally across the different environments."

Katrine Friis Østergaard, Head of Secretariat, Agro Food Park

The Solution

Flexible waste solution replaces Agro Food Park’s many individual waste bins

Agro Food Park already had positive experiences with Bica waste solutions in some of their other buildings. Based on that, we were invited in. Agro Food Park had already considered several aspects of the solution, which we helped them refine. We advised them on everything from the number of fractions to which bins would best meet their needs.

This resulted in a flexible indoor solution consisting of Model 950 with 4 fractions and Model 870 with 3 fractions in black powder coating. They also chose to purchase 65‑liter inner bins and apply self‑adhesive coloured pictograms. The solution has been implemented in all corridors, meeting rooms, and coffee areas, replacing the many individual waste bins that have now been removed from Agro Food Park.

All bins feature integrated pictograms, which have also been an important part of the solution for Agro Food Park. They are well aware that sorting waste into ten fractions requires guidance and nudging to help the park’s more than 1,000 employees sort correctly.

From waste to resources

"With Bica, we have chosen a flexible waste sorting solution in high quality that will last for many years. We can always add more bins if new requirements arise. And at the same time, the solution is designed so we don’t need to use bags for dry waste."

Katrine Friis Østergaard, Head of Secretariat, Agro Food Park

Future Expectations

A step towards a sustainable future

Agro Food Park aims to become increasingly sustainable and highlights the Bica waste bins as a small step in that direction.

They are therefore pleased with the new waste sorting solution, which the vast majority of employees have welcomed. Since implementing the solution, they have needed to make adjustments, and they expect to scale the solution further in the future.
